#7 Concept Map-The Water Cycle

Evaporation is the transformation of water from its liquid for to it's gaseous state. Evaporation can happen when the liquid is either cold or hot. In the case of water, evaporation happens more typically when water gets hot. There are studies that show that 90% of the water that is in our atmosphere comes from evaporation of water from the earth's lakes, oceans, rivers, etc.
A.    Evaporation of steam from a lake

B.    Water evaporates from high temperature water.
II.     Condensation
Condensation is the process by which water is changed from the vaporous stage in the air to the liquid water stage.
A.    Water condensates from cold liquids, like soda.
B.    Water condensates from plants.
III.    Precipitation
Precipitation is the process that water gets back to the ground via rain, or some frozen version of it.
A.    Frozen
1.    Snow
2.    Hail
B.    Liquid/Rain
IV.    Run-Off
This is the process that water runs across the ground to somewhere. It is often overly simplified and said that it will runoff to the ocean, but a lot of time it is soaked into the ground keeping the soil wet.
A.    Water runoff down a hill
B.    Man-made water run off
V.     Collection
Collection is the process of water finding a place to rest until it is evaporated back into the air. Kind of the part two to run-off.
A.    Big lakes as collection
B.    Collection in the ocean.

Project Based Learning with a Purpose
BAM Radio Network
Said BYOD

This podcast discussed how giving students projects that they can work with a purpose is important.  That bringing your own device to class is an effective way to give students the responsibility to bring something, but also it is a piece of technology that they are experienced using.

Voice of LIteracy
Drs. Kuby and Vander Zanden
Story Comprehension

This podcast talked about comprehending stories and the different voices of literacy. I enjoyed listening to podcasts, because it was different than reading and it was neat to see the excitement that the teachers had when they were sharing their information. When reading an article you aren't able to tell how excited someone is, but listening to them speak made it very evident.

#5

This article was an easy read for me. This article said that Shutterfly, and its free team website is not secure for sharing information and is actually not protected by SSL software.  Also, this article had a video pictured to show how easy it would be for hackers to get on a persons account, view their information, and download it to their computer.
I enjoyed reading this article, because I found it very alarming that parents could be a part of a website without ensuring that the security they claim to have is actually there. I found it very interesting also that an entire organization like the American Youth Soccer Organization would endorse a website without knowing that it was protected.  If what this article says is true, then these parents are giving people access to where they are and where their children are at any given time. I will say that it I have looked up the credibility of the website this article is on, Mother Jones and I can't find anywhere that gives this website a wonderful review. According to debate.org., this website has very good journalism, but it is very agenda based. If this is true, I would say that before I used a site like Shutterfly I would have to do more research about it.

#4 "With Tech Taking Over in Schools, Worries Rise"

This article sheds light on how technology is very present in schools all across the country in schools from kindergarten all the way through high school. This article addresses the issues that parents see with their children's information being spread across the web. It also talks about legislation that is being put into place in California to prevent the spread of personal information such as information about learning disabilities, family issues, and behavioral problems.
I enjoyed reading this article, because I am very concerned about using technology in my classroom for privacy reasons. Seeing how California is handling this situation makes it easier to see how they can protect families and their privacy. Also, I am happy to see how this can be implemented and that other states are also putting into effect legislation that will make it safer to use technology in the classroom because that has always been an issue for me. I will say that I think that this is credible only because it talks about legislation and I think that would be hard to fake.

#2

The video "The Learning Myth: Why I'll Never Tell My Son He's Smart" is a very interesting perspective on how people learn and how it could be detrimental to their development to call them that.
As an elementary school teacher, I want to give my students a base knowledge of everything they're going to need for the rest of their educational career. This video helped, because it went from the perspective that no matter how quickly a student progresses, they still need to learn the basics of each subject to grow in the future.  It's also humbling, because it's true that without elementary school and learning the fundamentals, they will never be able to reach their full potential.
